It's by no means recent, but Colchester's impressive scene for music, arts, and culture continues to grow.

Now, I'll bring the best events to you each week which I recommend checking out.
Here are Ben Howard's five recommendations for music, arts, and culture in Colchester in the week ahead.
Head to The Commons Community Kitchen and Café for Freedom Sound System on Saturday.
The legendary selecta Bopper Ranking curates an uplifting night of Roots, Reggae, Culture and Dub, blending deep, conscious music with heavy basslines.
Starts at 6pm. Ticket are £5.50
On Monday, enjoy a chilled evening at Acoustic Lounge at Romano Lounge, hosted by the singer/songwriter Sam Young.
This monthly event showcases local talent, and October’s lineup features two respected acoustic performers: Rosalind Harniess and Stu E Skinner.
Starts at 7pm with free entry.
On Tuesday, Seth Lakeman’s Kitty Jay 20th Anniversary Tour arrives at Colchester Arts Centre.
Celebrating the album that catapulted him to fame in 2005, Seth brings folk music to a new generation.
The Guardian called his Mercury Prize nomination “the biggest surprise” of the year, as he competed against pop artists.
Now, with 11 albums under his belt, Seth continues to inspire.

On Thursday at The Lakeside Theatre, Laugh Out Proud is an LGBTQIA+ comedy cabaret night hosted by comedian Mark Cram who is joined by headliners Shelf, and Sharon Wanjohi.
This inclusive event offers a welcoming space for all. Expect a night of laughter, expression, and good vibes.
Starts at 8pm. Advance tickets are £6 for UoE students, £10 for concessions, and £15 for full.
On Friday, Head to Coda for a live night of music with The Lamplight Club, Ecto Peach, and BIG big SKY.
Expect dark, alternative rock and roll rooted in garage, folk and gothic Americana from The Lamplight Club, who blend multilayered harmonies with poetic lyrics, strong hooks and heavy grooves.
Four piece spiky indie rock gang Ecto Peach support, while Josh Sandifer of Animal Noise brings his original tunes with BIG big SKY.
Starts at 9pm. Free entry.
