THE owner of an independent wedding shop in Colchester has been left "delighted" and "overwhelmed" after scooping a prestigious national award.
The Wedding Shop in Colchester High Street has won the title of Most Inspirational Bridal Boutique in the national Retail Bridalwear Association annual awards.
The shop was founded by Les and Jean Coverdale in the 1980s and is now owned by their daughter Nicola Garton.
Over its years of trading, it has built up a reputation as one of the country’s leading bridal boutiques selling dresses created by famous designers including Milla Nova and Suzanne Neville.
A total of 65 finalists competed for glory in 13 categories at the awards which recognise the UK’s leading bridal boutiques.
Nicola said it was an honour just to be a finalist in the respected competition.
She said: “To win such a wonderful award was not at all expected and we are feeling a little overwhelmed.
“We are absolutely delighted to win and would like to thank everyone who voted for us.”
The awards bring together suppliers and retailers to celebrate outstanding service and success in the bridal industry.
They are voted for by RBA member shops and are highly prized by both designers and suppliers in the industry.
Nicola said The Wedding Shop’s success was down to its perfect marriage of experience and friendliness.
She added: “We know a wedding is such an important occasion and as a team, we work hard to ensure our clients have the best service and experience.
“Our team is knowledgeable and experienced and creates a relaxed and friendly atmosphere which brides consider the perfect way to choose a wedding dress.”
