A SCHOOLBOY who stole a £500 bike has been ordered to carry out a youth rehabilitation requirement.

The 14-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stole the bike in July and appeared before Colchester Magistrates’ Court last month.

He admitted one charge of theft and one charge of handling stolen goods, but was not ordered to pay compensation because the bike was recovered by police.

Magistrates ordered the teenager to carry out a one-year youth rehabilitation order which will involve him attending a course overseen by a youth offending team.

He was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs.
