THE bosses of a popular restaurant have emphasised it is still open for business after the historic building it is situated in was put up for sale.
The Old Siege House Bar & Brasserie, at 75 East Street, is still open to customers for the foreseeable future.
The building is a major part of the city’s history and dates back to the 15th century and is well-known for being a location affected by The Siege of Colchester in 1648.
It is currently up for sale freehold, and restaurant is seeking offers in the region of £800,000.
However, the decision to list the building has not been an easy one to make, and it has been confirmed The Old Siege House Bar & Brasserie is open for business.
A spokesman for the restaurant said: “We have had numerous enquiries asking if we are still open and will we be open for bookings.
“We are still open and trading and will be open as normal with bookings being taken for Christmas.
“We do not intend to close and will carry on until a new owner is in place and hopefully it will carry on as it is in new hands.”
Over the years, the restaurant has earned a good reputation for its variety of homemade meals with locally sourced meat products.
It also serves afternoon tea and events such as quiz nights, tapas evenings, live entertainment and more.
Key features of the building include it being a ten-minute walk into the city centre as well as having two trading floors, a private two-bedroom flat, an enclosed patio garden and open fireplace.
It also has exposed wooden beams, oak panels and stained glass windows across the two floors.
The bosses of The Old Siege House Bar & Brasserie have also taken to Facebook make everyone aware that it is still open.
It said: “Our commitment to providing you with the highest quality experience and unforgettable memories remains unchanged.
“We deeply appreciate your continuous support and look forward to welcoming you soon.”
