A COLCHESTER care home has put on a fantastical themed afternoon tea for its residents.
New Copford Place Residential Care Home, in London Road, is run by the charity Friends of the Elderly.
The home took part in Afternoon tea week, an annual event which celebrates the tradition of afternoon tea.
Residents were treated to an Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea, where staff members dressed up as popular characters from the popular novel by author, Lewis Carroll.
The children’s book was published in 1865 and has had a lasting impact in the literature world as it remains a popular story even today.
Daniel Sabau is the registered manager at the home and dressed as the mad hatter, deputy manager Lucy Buckle became Alice and carer, Jackie Woodjetts transformed into the white rabbit.
In keeping with the classic tale, residents enjoyed an array of delicious afternoon tea treats, complete with ‘eat me’ and ‘drink me’ homemade delicacies.
Chelsey Leather, the activities coordinator at the home, said: “The residents enjoyed it so much they are already talking about what theme we should have for next year’s event to mark Afternoon Tea Week.”
