SAMSON Tovide believes Colchester United’s clash with Premier League club Brentford is a perfect opportunity for them to showcase their talent.

The U’s host the Bees in the Carabao Cup second round tomorrow night, aiming to cause another shock after eliminating League One outfit Reading in the last round.

Colchester could come up against the likes of Ivan Toney, Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo at the JobServe Community Stadium and striker Tovide is relishing the challenge ahead.

Tovide said: “We have to move on now and look ahead to playing a Premier League side in Brentford.

“Everyone’s looking forward to playing in that and it’s going to be a good game for everyone to showcase how good we are.”

Tovide is confident the goals will come for Colchester, after they drew a blank against Harrogate Town.

The U’s carved out 24 efforts on goal but came away empty-handed from the League Two clash, following a 1-0 defeat.

“You’ve just got to keep working and the goals will come,” said Tovide, who has started all four of Colchester’s games, this season.

“If you’re a striker in this team, you’re going to get a lot of chances.

“We’re still learning as a team and everyone’s trying to get the standard very much higher, so we’ve just got to keep working hard and the goals will come.

“We work the ball well and work with Danny and Nicky on rotations and trying to move from side to side as quickly as we can and get it to the front players.”

Tovide was Colchester’s man-of-the-match against Harrogate and was denied a second-half penalty when he appeared to be fouled in the area by Matty Foulds.

“I believe I should have had a penalty but it’s just one of those things,” said Tovide.

“It’s a game of opinions and there’s not much I could really do about it.

“I just had to get on with it and I’m used to it now.

“It was one of those games where we created loads of chances.

“We had most of the ball and didn’t really give them a sniff.

“We had 12 shots in the first half, they had two but when you don’t take your chances, you get punished.

“It was a soft goal but a mistake can happen to anyone.

“We’ve just got to keep going and there were a lot of positives to take from that game.

“There are still 43 games to go, so now we just look forward to the next game.

“You get games where everything goes your way and a goal like that happens but that’s football.”

Tovide says he is feeling fit after being eased into the new season, following his ankle injury last season.

Tovide added: “The ankle’s fine – I did a lot of work in the off season and had to sacrifice holidays, etc but it’s all good now and I feel ready to go.”
