A POPULAR Colchester venue is hosting a night of free music as a way of standing up to racism.
Colchester Arts Centre, in Church Street, is hosting its Colchester Against Racism event on Wednesday, August 28.
The line-up includes Greebo, Butterfly Handshake, Generation Feral, and Flores Blue.
Throughout the event, Vijay Patel will introduce each act.
Vijay joined Colchester Arts Centre in 2022 to help lead new initiatives for accessibility and inclusivity at the venue.
There will also be guest speakers including MP Pam Cox, Community 360’s Godwin Daudu and Grace Akinyemi.
Colchester Arts Centre director Anthony Roberts said: “I remember going on the old original Rock Against Racism marches in the old days.
“This is a way for young people to come together and stand up to all the prejudice we've seen of late.
“In the words of Elvis Costello, who I saw at one of those first gigs 'What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding'."
Doors open at 7pm and the event is free.
Advanced booking has been advised by the venue.
Funds will be collected for the charity, HOPE Not Hate, throughout the night.
Tickets are available at colchesterartscentre.com.
