Colchester United head coach Danny Cowley on transfer window

COLCHESTER United head coach Danny Cowley says there are still areas in his squad he would like to add to before the transfer window closes.

But the U's boss admits it is likely that players will have to leave the club, before any further reinforcements are made.

Colchester have made 11 new signings so far this summer, with former Ipswich Town and Lincoln City midfielder Teddy Bishop becoming their latest capture last week.

Conor Wilkinson is expected to leave Colchester before the deadline on August 30, while Matt Jay also seems likely to depart after finding himself out of the picture.

Both players are under contract at the U's, so they would command a fee for the duo should they sell them to another club.

Cowley said: "We're definitely moving in the right direction with the group.

"We may find one or two move on, which I think will be right for them.

"We've always tried to be open and tried to give those players clarity - we think that's the right way to work.

"Probably for us to bring anyone in, we'd probably have to move out first.

"There's of course one or two areas that we'd like to try to add to.

"But we're pleased with where we're at and we're really appreciative of Robbie (Cowling) and the way that he's supported us.

"We have to congratulate the academy as well and also the recruitment team, because we've been able to bring money into the club through the sales of Jayden Fevrier, Jay Mingi, Noah Chilvers and Connor Hall.

"Robbie's been really generous in terms of allowing us to use that money in order to help develop the squad."
