A MAN has been arrested after a lorry flipped over as it hit a train bridge in Pitsea this morning.

Emergency services were called to High Road shortly after 8.15am after a lorry crashed into the railway bridge and overturned.

Police worked extensively at the scene alongside Highways colleagues to clear the carriageway and a 55-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion driving under the influence of drugs.

He was taken onto hospital for further treatment and will be interviewed upon his discharge.

Police say serious injuries were suffered and the road was reopened this afternoon.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "If you witnessed the collision or have any information or footage which could assist our enquiries, please get in contact, and quote incident number 200 of June 6.
