A TASTE of the Caribbean is coming to Colchester this bank holiday weekend after two city businesses teamed up to put on a special event.

Retro garments business Best Days Vintage, in Eld Lane, is working alongside the popular pub, The Fat Cat, in Butt Road, for a Caribbean Beach Party on Saturday evening.

Kicking-off at 7pm, the night will be accompanied by live music from Dean Frost, rum Reynolds, and Will Foley.

There will be DJs, pizza, and rum-based alcoholic beverages on offer for the free entry event.

This will mark the third time the two organisations have worked together so far, after its successful Christmas event last year.

Best Days Vintage has become well known in the community for not only being a one-stop-shop of retro garments, vinyl music, and delicious café treats, but for also actively supporting youth culture in the city.

Where The Fat Cat is a family-run pub that has built up a stellar reputation for good drink and food, it also engages in charity work.

Steve Hurdle, 44, is the co-founder of Best Days Vintage and will be DJ’ing at the event, he believes independent businesses need to support each other.

Steve said: “In these challenging times, I believe that independent businesses need to be helping each other to survive and thrive.

“This city centre leans heavily on its local businesses, and the people that run them, the local circular economy helps Colchester to be the best it can be.

“All small businesses are really important to our city.

“At Bestdays we have come to rely on the advice, love and support from the team in the Fat Cat.

"If we can collaborate with their business to create a great event for the public, then it can only be good for our businesses and city as a whole.

“I honestly believe that working together, adapting, and changing how we do business is how we can all flourish in this tough economy.  I’d love to see more independent businesses working together.”

Alexa Keatley is the co-owner of the Fat Cat, said: “After a successful Christmas Light switch on, collaborating with Bestdays, we decided to get together and hold another spectacular summer event.

“Our Caribbean beach party will host an assortment of incredible music, food and drinks.

“Our manager Sarah Goddard has created cocktails, we are decorating the pub with a Caribbean theme and we encourage our customers to dress up for the beach party."
