A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a three car pile up which left a busy junction “totally mangled”.

Essex Police arrested the driver on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol in her system after the crash at the junction of Magdalen Street and Brook Street just before 7.45pm on Sunday.

She remains in custody, a spokesman for the force confirmed.

The East of England Ambulance Service rushed two people to hospital after sending three vehicles to the busy junction.

An eyewitness told the Gazette they’d seen a total of seven emergency service vehicles at the scene and that the roads re-opened at about 9.30pm.

“The railings and traffic lights were totally mangled,” they said.

A spokesman for the ambulance service confirmed: “We were called just before 7.45pm on Sunday, May 19 to a road traffic collision on the junction of Magdalen Street and Barrack Street in Colchester.

“An ambulance, rapid response vehicle and ambulance officer vehicle were sent to the scene.

“Two people were transported to Colchester Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
