A TALENTED Colchester musician who has performed at renowned locations across the country is gearing up to release a brand new single.
Gabriela Prior, 32, is a singer-songwriter that pens “gentle, vulnerable, and dreamy” songs that veer from indie-soul, alt-pop, and alt-R&B, under the moniker, Gabriela Eva.
Over the years, the songwriter has been supported by BBC Radio 6’s Giles Peterson and Tom Robinson, and played live on BBC London Radio.
Gabriela has performed at Glastonbury, Latitude, and Wilderness Festivals, and even inside the prestigious Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room or at renowned venues like Ronnie Scott's in London.
The songwriter who spent ten years in London is now back in Colchester and about to release the new single, Need in My Chest.
As someone who studied art and music growing up, Gabriela wanted to “carry on experimenting” with different mediums and has a love for creating music videos.
The songwriter is excited to release her new single on May 31.
Speaking to the Gazette, Gabriela explained the meaning behind the single and what inspired her to write it.
She said: “Need In My Chest is where I explore the human need to feel seen and heard by the people closest to us.
“It’s rooted in my own battle with anxiety, this song speaks of overcoming past traumas and finding our strength in vulnerability.
“The cover art, depicting Venus's birth, symbolizes the power of embracing vulnerability.
“But if our partner neglects to understand our love language, it can leave us feeling misunderstood, disconnected and lead to extreme anxiety.”
Having performed at many venues across Colchester and in different parts of the globe like America, Asia, and Europe, the Gabriela simply loves the feeling you get after “completing a song”.
And she savours the moments that call for experimentation when crafting a song.
In February, Gabriela Eva headlined Headgate Theatre’s first ever unplugged music event and she enthralled the crowd with her flawless voice and put on a dazzling set that ended in a mass sing-along.
Following the release of this single, there will be three other releases until her brand new EP drops in November, and she has teased the nature of the project.
She said: "As sentient beings, our instinctual nature guides us to identify threats in our external environment for our very survival.
"However, within the depths of our being, we embark on a profound voyage of self-exploration, unravelling the intricacies of our actions and motives.
“Through the power of my music, I aspire to weave a tapestry that resonates with the essence of our shared human experience.
“A sanctuary in the hope the listener feels embraced, understood, and acknowledged.
“May my melodies become a harmonious refuge, fostering connection and nurturing the collective journey towards becoming the truest and most authentic versions of ourselves."
