A community champion has donated more than a dozen books to children in hospital.

Simon Collis unfortunately had to visit the Urgent Treatment Centre at Colchester Hospital over the Bank Holiday weekend, as his daughter was not feeling well.

While there he saw the toys and books in the UTC were looking slightly worn so decided to donate 20 new children’s books to the hospital for the young patients.

He said: ”I took my youngest daughter to the urgent treatment centre because my daughter was not well.

"Over the other weekend, our local doctor's surgery could not see her as all the appointments were booked.

“While in the children's part I noticed some of the toys I donated along with books around two years ago were there still so I guess nobody wanted to replace them.

“The current toys were looking in a sorry state and I thought to myself ‘time to get some books’ as the books were in a worse state.

“So, while in the store, The Works, in Colchester today I noticed the books on offer - £10 for 10.”

Staff at Colchester Hospital were beyond thankful for the donation.
