A WOMAN in her 80s has died after a crash involving a lorry and a car in Essex this morning.

Police were called shortly after 10am this morning to a serious crash on the A414 at Writtle.

Sadly, Essex Police has now confirmed a woman, aged in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Enquiries into this crash are continuing and a road closure remains in place in both directions at Writtle.

Inspector Timothy Swain, of the force's roads policing unit, said: “Very sadly we are now in a position to confirm this is a fatal collision.

“The family of the woman concerned have been informed and are being supported.

“Our thoughts remain with them this afternoon.

“We remain on the scene of this serious collision as teams work to make the road safe and carry out enquiries.

“I appreciate the disruption this causes to road users, but it is vital we ensure our investigation is carried out properly and the scene made safe.”

Officers are appealing for anyone with information, or footage, which could assist their enquiries to come forward.
