A COLCHESTER club is hosting a unique night out experience for adults with learning disabilities so they can have “their turn to shine on the dancefloor”.
The Colchester Anti Loo Roll Brigade will stage an authentic night out at Trilogy, in High Street, on Friday night specifically tailored to over 16s with special needs.
Organiser by charity founder Peter Dutch and his team, the new event follows the success of the non-profit's Friday discos which have been held at the Stanway Lakeland Centre.
It will accommodate wheelchair users and there will also be a warning of flashing lights and music which will be provided by “incredible DJ Brain” who will play modern and classic hits all night.
Mr Dutch said the Friday night discos prove “an absolute highlight” for him.
He added: “A couple of the carers and the parents said their kids have never got a chance to experience a nightclub.
“So, I messaged James at the Trilogy, who was amazing and did the night free of charge."
Adults and support staff will be permitted to attend the event on Friday for free, while others will be charged £5 for entrance.
Peter says all the entrance money will go towards glow sticks, UV glasses, and laser sticks.
Peter originally set up the “tongue-in-cheek named” Colchester Anti Loo Brigade in March 2020 as a response to the pandemic, which has now expanded into helping adult social care and domestic abuse work among other local issues.
Peter added: “Ticket sales are going really well and hopefully it will be an amazing night.
“When thinking for the name of the club event, Shine was chosen as we thought this is their turn shine on the dance floor."
James McKeon, the owner of Trilogy, added: “We are really excited to host our first additional needs night in partnership with the Anti Loo Roll Brigade.
“When Peter approached me with his vision of the night, I wanted to do all I could to support and give back to the community.
“The venue has seen tens of thousands attend since its refit last October keeping clubbing very much alive in the city.
“We can’t wait to welcome our guests on Friday.”
