A FATHER who dealt illegal drugs to fund his addiction kept a knife next to packets of cocaine in his home, a court heard.

Carl Jamison appeared in Ipswich Crown Court for sentencing on Friday after admitting one charge of possessing cocaine with intent to supply and one charge of possessing cannabis.

The court heard how Jamison, of Hakewill Way, Colchester, had his address raided by police when officers executed a search warrant in January 2022.

Jamison, 33, immediately told police where the drugs were, saying “It’s all in the bag over there”.

Foloshade Abiodun, prosecuting, told the court how police seized five bags of cocaine, digital scales, a kitchen knife, and £800 in cash.

A phone which police also searched was used  to send bulk text messages as part of a dealing operation.

Ms Abiodun added Jamison had a previous conviction of causing injury by dangerous driving, for which he received a suspended sentence in September 2014.

The defence argued Jamison had since freed himself from his addiction, adding he has since held down full-time employment in the form of a job at TT Removals.

It was also argued Jamison is now the sole carer for his 14-year-old daughter.

Judge David Wilson said: “I have to ask myself if there is a realistic chance of rehabilitation – in this case, I believe there is.”

He added: “Things took a downturn as far as your ex-partner was concerned.

“You started abusing cocaine and drinking to excess.

“In order to afford your addiction, you sold Class A drugs.

“Much to your credit, you have expressed feelings of being ashamed and deeply remorseful of becoming involved in the drug industry.”

Judge Wilson added Jamison had shown determination to turn his life around.

He added: “Since 2022, things have moved in a positive away – you are the primary carer of your 14-year-old daughter and you have taken steps to address your offending behaviour.”

Jamison was sentenced to a two-year jail term suspended for two years and 200 hours of unpaid work.

The defendant was also ordered to carry out 20 rehabilitation requirement days and pay £500 in costs.
