Staff at Colchester Crematorium are preparing to open their doors to the public, as they confirm plans for the first open day in eight years.

Scheduled for May 11, 2024, workers are opening the site for residents, and those seeking solace, to explore the crematorium and grounds.

Visitors will have the option to go on a guided tour of the area, witnessing the compassionate care provided and gaining insight into the cremation process.

Tours, starting from 10.30am, take place every half-hour, but it is recommended you pre-book.

Councillor David King, leader of Colchester Council, said: "This open day is for everyone, whether you want to learn more about our services, or you live nearby and would like to understand more.

"We very much look forward to welcoming local families to this lovely, peaceful site."

Visitors will also have the chance to explore unique funeral vehicles and connect with the compassionate communities team for advice.

Notably, refreshments and a warm welcome will await all attendees.

Those interested in attending the open day are advised to contact cemetery@colchester.gov.uk or visit their website for more information.
