A NORTH Essex holiday park has apologised and claimed it was “hacked” after an unprofessional comment was made on a social media page.
Coopers Beach Holiday Park, on Mersea Island, left customers frustrated after the insensitive comment.
The comment seen by The Gazette was made on the ‘Coopers Beach Holiday Park Caravans and Lodges For Sale Essex’ in response to a customer's anger about losses on holiday homes.
It read: “If I had £1 for every time someone said they had lost thousands by buying a holiday home.”
To which the Holiday Park account responded: “Oh change the record. It’s so boring.
“You lost a few quid on your holiday home because it’s not an investment and you spend the rest of your boring life crying about it.”
The comment was finished by the phrase “I’ve got something for you” with a number of violin emojis.
The page has since been taken down.
Following the incident, the Coopers Beach Facebook page has apologised and claimed its page was hacked.
'We apologise'
A spokesman for Coopers Beach Holiday Park said: “One of our Facebook pages associated with Coopers Beach Holiday Park was hacked on Friday, April 12.
"Any comments shared during this time did not come from a representative from Coopers Beach.
"The page was compromised when a staff Facebook profile with admin access to the Coopers Beach page was hacked.
"This was an isolated incident relating to one Facebook page and other systems have not been affected.
"As soon as we were made aware, we reported the hack to Facebook who took the page down. This incident does not reflect our values and we apologise for any inconvenience or offence caused.”
In a separate statement on social media the company also said it was taking the matter "seriously".
Some angered customers have, however, disputed the hacking claim.
“Unprofessional is an understatement,” one said.
Coopers Beach is part of the Parkdean Resorts group, which has a number of sites in the county.
The East Mersea site has hundreds of caravans as well as an entertainment centre, shop, indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
It won the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards last year, alongside fellow north Essex Parkdean Resort Weeley Bridge, in Clacton.
