POLICE have set up a cordon in St John’s Green following an incident on Saturday morning.

About six police officers were on the scene to divert drivers and pedestrians, with one police van prevent entry to St John’s Green via the A134 Southway.

A second police vehicle was parked in Flagstaff Road.

One passer-by said they saw two armed police officers, whilst a resident said they first noticed the police cordon at 10.30am on Saturday.

They said: “It was earlier this morning a couple of hours ago at about 10.30am – it wasn’t early hours.

“I was just surprised, wondering what’s happened because it doesn’t look good.

“I was obviously a little bit surprised – I wouldn’t have expected to see it there, especially when we don’t know what’s happened.

“You potentially expect to see this more in the town centre not in this particular area, which is why it’s surprising that the cordon is there.”

They added they did not feel unsafe in the area, which does not see a high rate of crime.

They continued: “I don’t feel unsafe or anything, but because we don’t know what has happened, it is a surprise.”
