TWO brothers are making freshly prepared burgers and honouring their late nan’s memory.

Nathan and Lewis Britten, 24 and 21, of Earls Colne, have joined forces to launch Britten’s Bites.

Their food truck business creates fresh to order burgers, hot dogs and 'dirty' fries.

The business currently operates on Fridays from 5pm to 9pm at the Rec in Earls Colne, and on Saturdays offers a delivery service across the village, Halstead, Chapel, Coggeshall and the surrounding area.

Nathan discovered his love for cooking after completing an apprenticeship at Colchester Institute in 2018 and worked as a chef at the Lion pub.

When grandmother Brenda Tucker died at the age of 77 from cancer in 2022, she left the lads some money.

Nathan said: “Our nan was poorly as her cancer came back. She had left us a little bit of money and we decided to do something that would benefit us.

“We thought let’s do something to honour her.

“We thought about doing a food trailer. It kind of just happened.

"Mum was doing research, and she knew we could afford a trailer if we wanted it."

In July 2023, their parents Tracey and Phill Britten drove to Surrey to collect a wooden trailer.

Nathan and Lewis renovated the trailer together, ripping it apart, adding stainless steel sides, a fryer, sanded the outside, and kitted it out with equipment.

The pair also painted it black and red - the colour scheme they would paint their cars on the Grand Theft Auto Five video game.

After months of hard work, Britten’s Bites was officially launched in December 2023 and has gone from strength to strength.

Nathan said: “It’s been fun working together on something which is for us, and it feels like more freedom.

“We want to own our own gym in the future, so in the menu all the protein and calories have been calculated to help promote general wellbeing and health.

“I’d like to have five trailers or vans and cater for all sorts of things and hopefully boost the local economy.

“I want to be able to put other people through apprenticeships and help them find their passion for cheffing.”
