A DRUNK mum who had an argument with an ex-partner attacked two police officers outside a city centre nightclub by kicking them in the genitals, a court has heard.

Megan Wade appeared before Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to admit one charge of being drunk and disorderly in a public place and two charges of assaulting emergency workers.

Three members of the public accompanied Wade in court and sat in the public gallery for Tuesday's hearing.

The assault took place on Sunday, February 25, when Wade, 23, was in the smoking area outside Walkabout nightclub in Head Street.

Adebisi Adenaike, prosecuting, told the court how Wade had been involved in a verbal altercation with an ex-partner outside the club.

Security then asked Wade to leave, and when an argument started, police who were passing the nightclub intervened.

Miss Adenaike said: “PC Brady tried to remove the defendant from the premises and she kicked them in the genitals, causing injury.

“During the arrest, the defendant kicked PC Cole in the genitals also.

“The defendant was interviewed and stated she couldn’t remember kicking the police officers.”

Lucy Osborn, mitigating, said Wade was “deeply ashamed” to appear in court to face the charges.

She said: “She was out with friends and had consumed too much alcohol.

“She bumped into an ex-partner and an argument broke out between them; the staff knew her ex-partner and decided he should stay and she should leave.

“She became frustrated and felt it was unfair – she was holding onto one of the door staff which is why the police got involved.”

The court heard how Wade, of Cross Cut Court, Colchester, is also the mother of a four-year-old daughter and was of previous good character with no previous convictions.

Mrs Osborn added: “She was previously working in home care but she had to give it up because it wasn’t workable with her childcare arrangements.

“She may pay a very dear price for her a drunken night out.”

Chair of the bench Andrew Campbell said: “We have heard about your drunken evening out and how it’s resulted in the assault of two police officers, which must have been very unpleasant for them."

He ordered Wade to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work over the next year and deducted £259 from her benefits payments.
