A VEHICLE fire caused long delays on the A12 as drivers were stranded in stationary traffic for more than half an hour.

The incident took place shortly before 10pm on Saturday night near Kelvedon when a vehicle was “100 per cent alight”, a fire service spokesman said.

Crews from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called out to a fire on the A12 southbound between junction 24 and junction 23, and were on the scene for more than half an hour to extinguish the fire.

A spokesman for ECFRS said: “Crews from were called to a car fire on the A12 Junction 24 to 23 Southbound at 9.54pm on Saturday night.

“On arrival the car was 100 per cent alight.

“They used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire by 10.33pm and handed the incident over to the police.”
