THE Sunday Times recently named Wivenhoe as the best place to live within the East of England.
And after visiting the historic town, we were left with the impression that such a claim may not be too far from the truth.
While walking around the quiet north Essex area, many of its residents described it as "lovely", "fascinating", and "beautiful".
With it having a rich history connected to seafarers, famous artists, Essex University and easy transport links to London, the people of the town seem to adore it.
No matter where you go in Wivenhoe, there is always something to see or do, so take a trip around the town through the Gazette’s photos.
Starting with the best, one of the first things you must do is enjoy a spectacular view of the River Colne from the town’s Quay.
After taking in the views, you can then treat yourself to some good food, drink, and conversation at The Rose & Crown.
When you’re out on a walk, you can also find the odd community bookshelf, if you fancy a read.
Don’t forget to keep out a lookout for the Wivenhoe Monster as well.
The town has some fascinating locations to pop into such as The Nottage Maritime Institute or the church next to Falcon Yard, off the High Street.
If you’re looking to indulge in some art or reading, then stop off at The Sentinel Gallery or The Wivenhoe Bookshop.
You can also check out the Wivenhoe Fire Station if you’re in the area.
Whatever you do, you must grab some sweet treats at the Norwegian Bakers and check out the other fantastic shops at the town's business centre.
Finally, a trip for fish and chips at Henley’s of Wivenhoe is a must.
