A NEW restaurant will soon be opening in the city centre - and it appears to already be taking shape.

A popular Indian street food chain is set to open a new branch in Colchester High Street.

Chaiiwala, which offers a range of Indian snacks as well as chai tea, is moving into the former Royal British Legion building in 133 High Street.

The business was first founded in 1927 in New Delhi but has now spread worldwide after a re-launch in 2016, with the first store in the UK opening in Leicester.

It typically serves both hot food and drinks and has branches across the UK.

Gazette:

New pictures now show posters have appeared in the windows of the Colchester building, with the message "coming soon".

It comes after plans for signs were sent to the council, which will boast the typical Chaiiwala logo and an accompanying statement.

Developers believe the sign represents “good design and will not cause any harm to visual amenities”.

On the menu, the business typically offers several Indian snack food items including Mumbai Mac n’ Cheese and a vegetarian kebab roll.

The restaurant also includes all-day Indian breakfast as well as a number of sweet options.

One of the popular drink options is chai tea, an Indian beverage throughout South Asia and is usually made of tea mixed with spices including cinnamon and cardamom.

The drink has been popularised in the UK after being offered in several coffee shops across the country.
