A prolific thief has been caught breaching a court order banning him from touching any vehicle which is not his own.

Aaron Tomlin, 33, of no fixed abode, was made subject to a criminal behaviour order in February by Essex Police’s Colchester Town Centre Team.

The order made it an offence for him to touch any motor vehicle apart from his own or enter a driveway without the owner’s consent.

Tomlin, formerly of Jaywick, had previously been convicted for a number of thefts from motor vehicles which have taken place across the city centre.

Gazette:

On March 26, Essex Police officers used CCTV footage to identify him as being involved in yet another theft in the city.

Tomlin was arrested the following day on suspicion of the offence before being linked to a number of further incidents breaching the police order while he was in custody.

He was subsequently charged with three CBO breaches, two counts of theft from a motor vehicle, one count of attempted theft from a motor vehicle and going equipped.

Tomlin appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on March 28 and will be sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on April 25 while being remanded in custody.

Chief Inspector Colin Cox, Colchester district commander, said: “The diligence shown by our town centre team to link these offences to Tomlin should not be underestimated.

“Our community should know that when they come into the city centre, to enjoy everything it has to offer, they can park their cars without fear of people like Tomlin being around.

“Thankfully, he is now off our streets and awaiting a sentence.

"Make no mistake, behaviour like this will not be tolerated. When we have the evidence, we will not hesitate in tracking down perpetrators and putting them before the courts.”
