AN annual football match pitting current and past pupils of Colchester Royal Grammar School against each other returned for another outing.
In this year’s Keeble Cup football match, the current Colchester Royal Grammar School team took home the title by defeating the Old Colcestrian Society 3-1.
Following an impressive showing, Year 11 pupil Will Crook was named Man of the Match.
Old Colcestrian Society Jamie McCrudden founded the match in memory of former Colchester Royal Grammar School pupil Vic Keeble.
Born in 1930, Colchester-born Keeble went on to win the FA Cup with Newcastle United in 1955.
The striker also played for Colchester United and West Ham, as well as a stint with Arsenal as a schoolboy.
Keeble was forced to retire from the game in 1960 following a back injury before he died aged 87 in 2018.
Jamie McCrudden said: "The Keeble Cup reinforces the strong connections that exist between the School and the Society and is played in a competitive spirit which reflects well on both.”
Following the match on the school’s playing fields, Jamie presented the trophy to the winning captain and congratulated the Colchester Royal Grammar School team on their first win since 2018.
However, the Old Colcestrian Society leads the series 3-2.
