COLCHESTER has been named as one of the worst places for mobile phone thefts in Essex, after new research was conducted.
Mobile phone insurance experts, Loveit Coverit, analysed Essex police data spanning January 2023 to 2024, uncovering the regions within Essex most susceptible to phone theft.
Near the bottom of the list for phone safety, coming in at 7th worst, is Colchester.
Out of 124 thefts in the city, 87 involved mobile phones, making the phone theft rate 4.51 per 10,000.
Harlow, meanwhile, was named as the place where residents are most likely to get their phone stolen.
Loveit Coverit estimates a staggering 84 instances of phone theft within this area alone, equating to approximately nine thefts per 10,000 residents.
At the other end of the spectrum, and at the top of the list for the safety of mobile devices, is Maldon.
The phone theft rate per 10,000 residents is 0.91, while there were only eight reported thefts from individuals between January 2023 and 2024.
To put these figures in perspective, the average phone theft rate for the whole of Essex is 4.2 per 10,000 residents.
