A LONG-STANDING celebration which has been on hold since the coronavirus pandemic is set to make a return to the city.

Colchester Carnival was last held in 2019, before Covid-19 and social distancing restrictions put pay to the annual event.

The final extravaganza had been brought back by a group of volunteers including members of the Essex Fire Service in Colchester.

The event, which has not taken place since then, is now being revived for 2024 and is scheduled to take place this August.

Volunteers involved in organising the procession, set to boast big and little floats, trucks, bands, dancers and more, are now looking for people to join their team.

A spokesman for Colchester Carnival said: "We are bringing back Colchester Carnival in August 2024.

"We need to see if there is the support for organising this year - if there is, then let's do this.

"A number of the team from 2019 are interested to hear what you think as we are planning the route and about to announce the date of the procession."
