SCHOOL pupils and staff are celebrating after a glowing report from watchdogs - who told them they "might be rated outstanding" if a full inspection was to take place now.
Prettygate Junior School in Colchester has maintained its good rating following a two-day school inspection last month.
Following the visit the school was praised for its care for pupils, “high ambitions”, “effective” curriculum and more.
The report reads: “Pupils, parents and carers and staff delight in being part of the Prettygate community, where relationships are positive and pupils thrive.
“Pupils are extremely well cared for and supported.
“They love socialising with their younger friends and siblings from the partner infant school during shared lunchtimes.
“They play happily together, take turns in games and show great kindness to others.”
The inspector added how staff have “high expectations” of pupils and what they can achieve, with pupils rising to meet these “especially well”.
“They are proud to demonstrate the school’s ‘ARK’ values of ‘ambition, respect and kindness’,” the report said.
“They know their importance and are proud to join the headteacher for hot chocolate on ‘Marshmallow Mondays’ to celebrate when these values are embodied.”
The school was also praised for its “highly effective curriculum” which Ofsted said supports “all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities”.
The report added how teachers have “expert subject knowledge” and how pupils’ behaviour is “commendable”.
It said: “Pupils are absorbed in their lessons and are considerate towards others. Relationships are incredibly positive.
“Pupils understand about equality and know everyone is welcome.
"They feel safe and happy here.”
Headteacher Mark Millbourne expressed his delight and gratitude, attributing the success to the hard work and dedication of the entire school community.
He added: “The inspection report indicated there has been no change to the school's overall judgment of good.
“However, the evidence gathered suggests the school might achieve an outstanding grade if a graded inspection was conducted now.
“The anticipation builds as the school looks forward to its next graded inspection.”
