TWO talented puppeteers have been announced as part of an upcoming event delving into the world of children’s television.

Colchester Museums has unveiled exciting details for the Big TV Weekend at Colchester Castle.

The event is a special extension of the Thunderbirds and Co: The Joy of Puppetry exhibition, offering a unique daytime adventure into the world of puppetry.

Visitors can explore the exhibition and immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of TV history.

In addition, for the weekend only, attendees can enjoy puppet displays, engaging talks with notable personalities and captivating demonstrations.

In another exclusive, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of beloved TV series Stingray, the original ‘Marina’ puppet will be available to view over the weekend.

As night falls, Colchester Castle will come alive with spectacular evening events.

Attendees can access the Thunderbirds exhibition as well as mingle with iconic personalities and puppets from children’s TV.

There will also be live radio plays and insightful guest speakers, including two incredible puppeteers.

Mary Turner, lead puppet operator and sculptor from the Gerry Anderson TV series Thunderbirds, Stingray, Captain Scarlet and many more, will be talking about her career.

Mary will be taking along Gerry and Sylvia Anderson puppets, including the original Lady Penelope puppet from Thunderbirds.

As well as this, Ronnie Le Drew, best known as Zippy from the popular Rainbow series, will also be at the event.

Ronnie has worked on films including Labyrinth with David Bowie, The Little Shop of Horrors, The Muppets Christmas Carol and Netflix series Dark Crystal Age of Resistance.

Colchester council leisure boss Michelle Burrows said: “We are thrilled to announce our rather special guests and the exciting pieces of TV history they will bring with them.

“The Marina puppet is extremely exciting.

“It's not only a testament to the talent of TV giant Gerry Anderson and his team, but also a cherished item of television history.”

Tickets are £25 for adults and £12.50 for children and available at Colchester Castle or by calling 01206 282939.

Daytime events are included in castle admission but evening event tickets must be purchased in advance.

Thunderbirds and Co: The Joy of Puppetry will be on display at Colchester Castle from March 29 to June 30.

The Big TV Weekend runs from April 6 to 7.
