A MEDIA company has teamed up with a mental health charity to encourage men in sports clubs to seek help.
Brightlingsea resident Mat Court set up his company Grassroot Media to specialise in targeted advertising in sports clubs such as bowls, cricket, rugby, and football.
After being introduced to the mental health charity Mind Over Mountains and its mission to support men in seeking mental health support, he was keen to come aboard.
“It reminded me of my own experiences using the great outdoors, particularly the Lake District, as a solace for mental health during my younger years,” he said.
“It's inspiring to see the tangible difference Mind Over Mountains makes in promoting mental health and well-being through nature.
“Through our football club poster network, we hope to amplify this vital message and support efforts to make a significant impact on people's lives.”
Mind Over Mountains is a national charity and part of the social prescribing movement, organising walks and weekend retreats.
The posters titled “You’ll Never Walk Alone” in cooperation with Grassroot Media promote a series of activities where people can get professional help.
Mind Over Mountains chief executive Ian Sansbury said: “Football is a team sport, but a struggle with mental fitness can seem very lonely.
“Despite some recent progress, there is still a massive stigma around mental health issues, especially among men.
“Traditional ideas of masculinity you might find in a football locker room emphasise strength and emotional control.
“Anyone suffering from depression or emotional issues might feel pressure to 'get a grip' or 'man up', rather than seek support.”
