A VILLAGE council could be set to ban dog owners from unleashing their canine pets in a popular green space.

Kelvedon Parish Council will host its monthly parish council meeting today at 8pm in the council chamber in the high street.

On the agenda for this evening will be to consider whether to make Brockwell Meadows, off Teal Way, Kelvedon, an on-lead restricted area for dog walkers.

The space is a popular spot for dog owners to take their pets on walks.

New signs could be put in place at entrances to Brockwell Meadows spelling out the restrictions, according to the council’s agenda notes.

The signs would say: “For the protection of wildlife, dogs must always be kept on leads.

“Owners are also asked to remove their dog waste and dispose of in the dog waste bins provided.”

Debbie Chisholm has lived in Kelvedon since 2019 and has taken her dogs off-lead in Brockwell Meadows many times.

She said: “It’s great they’re thinking of the environment, but it feels like it’s at the expense of local people’s mental health and being able to exercise our dogs properly.

“I think it will push people up to the ‘rec’ which is a pain as that’s a football pitch and a playground, so is a shame for the kids to possibly have more dog poo to contend with.”
