LITTERING, flytipping and graffiti were all targeted in a day of action in Colchester's North Station Road.

Colchester Council's Neighbourhood team joined forces with Essex Police and other agencies for the event.

The team targeted several antisocial behaviour issues, such as littering, flytipping, and graffiti in North Station Road.

Among the day's accomplishments were clearing six flytipping sites with fines issued, tidying up overgrown footpaths, cleaning and removing graffiti from twenty street name signs and twelve bins, and collecting several bags of rubbish.

The team also interacted with the area's residents to listen to their concerns.

David King, leader of Colchester Council, said "It’s great to see partners coming together to make a real difference in our communities through days of action.

"By working together, we are able to not only tidy up and perform essential maintenance, but tackle crime and antisocial behaviour, and make our streets safer and more welcoming for everyone.

"We recognise that recent reports of violent incidents across Colchester will have raised concern across the community; but look to reassure residents that these incidents are isolated, and often the result of personal disputes, rather than random acts of violence towards strangers.

"Public safety remains a top priority for the council, and we are committed to continuing to work closely with the police and other partners, through days of action like today and many other initiatives, to address violence and its root causes."

Essex Police carried out vehicle spot checks at traffic stop points as part of their wider week of action to combat crime and antisocial behaviour.

Businesses were also reminded to keep their areas clean.
