AS an avid pizza fan, I have tried most pizza places in the city.
But there was one which, despite being open for months, I had not yet tried… but not anymore.
Caprinos Pizza opened in North Station Road last September.
The new shop filled the space left vacant by the departing Pizza Hut delivery store, which was shut due to “the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis”.
Following a trip into the city centre, I decided it was finally time to see if it has filled the void left by Pizza Hut.
Walking in, I was instantly very impressed by the décor, which felt modern and clean.
I was greeted warmly by a staff member and the service was quick, not just because I was the only one there.
After deliberating and then realising I was actually not that hungry, I decided to go for a small margherita pizza with a BBQ dip, as well as a side of fries.
For just £9.48, £6.99 of which was for the pizza, the price was definitely a positive.
It was a short ten-minute wait for the cooking and prep before I collected the goods and headed home to try it out.
I was pleasantly surprised with the pizza itself. It was full of flavour and tasted delicious.
Part of me slightly regretted not going for a bigger-sized pizza, with six slices not lasting too long.
The fries were a little disappointing. However - as with many things, they were made better by the dipping sauce.
One thing I must add is I did have to brave the Colchester - particularly Cowdray Avenue - traffic to get home, so the food was not as piping hot as I would have hoped.
However, there are a couple of tables inside the branch so I may consider eating in next time.
And yes, there will be a next time.
Overall, I would say Caprinos is a welcome addition to the city centre and offers something different and slightly cheaper than the ever-popular Domino’s or Pizza Hut.
It is a great alternative option to the mainstream choices, and with other sides and pizzas to try, I will definitely be going back to Caprinos soon.
