FEARS of people carrying offensive weapons saw “armed officers” rush to an estate in Colchester.

Police officers were called to Greenstead after receiving reports people had been seen carrying offensive weapons yesterday afternoon.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called to reports of suspects carrying offensive weapons seen in Miranda Walk, Colchester, at about 4.10pm on Tuesday, February 27.

“Officers quickly attended the scene and carried out a thorough search of the area, but no suspects were identified.

“Our inquiries are ongoing.”

An eyewitness told the Gazette they had seen “police helicopters, armed officers, and police dogs” in the Hawthorn Avenue area at about 5pm.
