SEVERAL parking spaces for disabled motorists in Colchester are set to have their restrictions revoked before new bays are installed.

Essex Highways is removing 'disabled badge holders only' restrictions from four parking bays in Old Heath Road, Castle Road, Charles Street, and Twining Road.

A 'No Waiting Monday to Friday 9am to 10am' restriction will also be revoked in New Kiln Road, while B1 permits will no longer be valid in Garland Road.

An existing advisory bay in Becker Road, however, will now be upgraded to become a disabled parking bay and a further disabled bay will be added to New Kiln Road and Garland Road.

A document within the traffic regulation order explained why these changes are being implemented.

It said: “Some Essex residents need a disabled parking bay marked on the street outside their home to help reduce the distance they need to travel between their home and their car.

“Essex County Council will consider providing such bays for residents with a valid Blue Badge and a vehicle registered to the property.

“Once we have been notified the person no longer needs the disabled parking bay, it is removed in order to return the space to the Highway and enable any vehicle to park there.”

Alongside this, D2 resident permits will now be valid in Castle Road on Mondays to Saturdays, and residents with C2 permits can park in Charles Street.
