Officers shut Leamington Road in Hockley after a man was assaulted yesterday afternoon.

The man was taken to hospital shortly after 3.10pm, where he was treated for injuries which police have confirmed are “not life-threatening or life-changing”.

Detective Inspector Franklin, from Southend Criminal Investigation Department, said: “We responded quickly to this incident and were with the victim within minutes.

“A scene was established as officers continued to conduct enquiries in relation to this incident, but this has now been stood down.

“As part of our ongoing investigation, I would ask anyone with information which could assist us to get in touch.

“We take reports of violence-related offences very seriously and in ensuring our response to such matters is prompt and effective.

“At this stage, we believe this was a targeted incident of violence with no wider ongoing threat to the public.”
