A homeless charity is supporting the Refugee Asylum seeker and Migrant Group (RAMA) by organising a donation drive of essential items.

Encouraging the public to contribute, this appeal coincides with the 70th anniversary of Emmaus Colchester's establishment.

RAMA assists refugees and migrants integrating into the city, offers advice on the asylum process, supports at doctor’s visits, English lessons, and job applications.

Emmaus Colchester, in an effort to share their solidarity, has regularly supported RAMA, providing furniture and homeware packages for individuals who arrive at their new residences with very few possessions.

The charity is gathering essential items for RAMA's food bank and support packages, which include men's and women's toiletries, food bank necessities such as cooking oil, tomato puree, packet noodles, and family supplies including nappies and baby wipes.

These items can be dropped off at the Emmaus Work shop on 8-13 Osborne Street, Colchester, CO2 7DT.

Donations can also be made to RAMA via their website.

Abbe Pierre, founder of Emmaus Colchester, broadcasted a heartfelt call-to-action across French media, addressing the increase in homelessness and how people were dying on the street.

Brian Cook, chief Executive Officer of Emmaus Colchester, said: "We’re pleased to be supporting RAMA by collecting essential items people arriving to the country are in need of.

"Solidarity is an important aspect of Emmaus Colchester, we want to support those who are most in need.

"Both rates of homelessness and people fleeing war and conflict are on the rise and it’s crucial that we stand together to support each other.
