THE owners of what is the one of the only Filipino restaurants in the east of England have said the opening of the site has been "thrilling and exciting".
Tayo By Bien, in North Hill, Colchester, is a business run by the Causapins family.
Manager Bea is joined by head chef and brother Bien, with family member Lucas a front-of-house staff member.
Parents Maria Monnette Causapin and Plaridel Causapin help where they can, whilst also running their Filipino Domiciliary Care Agency, based in the top office of the same building.
Bien’s wife Deimante has also been a big part of the development of the business.
The Filipino restaurant opened in November and is now relaunching its main menu as of February 20.
Speaking to the Gazette, the family said it prides itself on offering a “truly authentic” Filipino dining experience.
“From traditional recipes passed down through generations to warm and welcoming hospitality, we are eager to share a new taste of Filipino culture with a twist of modern fusion, to the heart of Colchester,” they said.
The menu showcases the “rich and diverse flavours of Filipino cuisine”, from classic Caldareta to mouthwatering Filipino barbecue skewers, as well as vegetarian-friendly options too.
The restaurant also serves a selection of desserts.
Speaking on the first few months, the family said: “Opening a new restaurant was both thrilling and challenging.
“The feedback was positive, and people loved the menu and ambience.
“It was great to hear everyone enjoying the food and atmosphere as we felt it was a representation of our culture.
“It is a proud moment to share our food since there are not a lot of Filipino restaurants in the area.
“Knowing there were a lot of people trying Filipino food for the first time at our restaurant was scary but exciting.”
The restaurant has also undergone some changes following feedback, such as opening times, adding special event nights on the weekend and updating the menu.
“Being the only Filipino restaurant in the east of Essex, we are excited to welcome the community to our restaurant,” the family said.
“It is an excellent opportunity for locals to experience the vibrant tastes of the Philippines right here in Colchester.”
The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm, open later until 9pm and 10pm on Thursday and Saturday.
