DRIVERS are being advised to plan their journeys due to work on the A12, with bosses saying some work is now 60 per cent complete.

National Highway said work on the A12 Margaretting bypass concrete road scheme is now at a “crucial stage” meaning contraflow and overnight closures will take place from Monday February, 19.

From Monday, 19 to Saturday February, 24 the A12 junction 15 (Three Mile Hill/Webb’s Farm Interchange) southbound entry slip road will be closed.

While from March, 1 there will be two lanes maintained in each direction to support the extensive reconstruction of the northbound carriageway.

Further, several overnight road closures will take place in March, all from 8pm to 6pm “when traffic levels are at their lowest":

  • February 19 to February, 2024 - The A12 junction 15 (Three Mile Hill/Webb’s Farm Interchange) southbound entry slip road will be closed.
  • Friday March, 1 and Saturday March, 2 nights - The southbound will be fully closed between junctions 16 and 13 as well as the northbound between junctions 12 and 15.
  • Sunday March, 3 and Monday March, 4 nights: the northbound will be fully closed between junctions 12 and 15.

Nisar Ahmad, National Highways Project Manager, said: “The A12 is one of the region's most important roads and carries 80,000 vehicles each day helping to connect London with Essex ports and the population centres of Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich and Lowestoft”.

“Our work will futureproof the vital upgrade to the A12 section of Margaretting Bypass for years to come."

“We would like to thank road users and local communities for their patience during the scheme and can confirm we are now 60% complete. For the remaining work we are doing all we can to minimise disruption – this includes working overnight and at weekends when the road is less busy.”
