AN expert from a BBC television show is heading to Colchester this Friday to help people avoid scams, fraud, and more.
Dr Elisabeth Carter, an expert from Rip Off Britain, Scam Interceptors, David Wilson's Crime Files, and For Love or Money, will be at the Greenstead Community Centre on Friday, February, 16 from 12pm.
The event, lasting about two hours, will strive to empower people against the “growing threat” of fraud, be it through online scams, romance fraud, investment fraud, courier fraud or WhatsApp scams.
Dr Carter will outline protections which can be used to combat fraud as well as offer advice for criminal justice and community organisations.
The free event is being hosted by councillor Pam Cox, Labour’s parliamentary candidate and also by the Greenstead councillor team.
Dr Carter has previously worked with Thames Valley Police to create a guide to spotting romance fraudsters, highlighting the crime’s connection to coercive control.
Dr Carter was further awarded the British Society of Criminology’s book prize and was the Outstanding Tacking Economic Crime Professional 2022 winner.
