FLOODING is "likely" to continue after two weather warnings were updated for areas in north Essex - homes and properties could be flooded as a result.

The Environment Agency issued a flood warning for homes and businesses located in Braintree and Witham at 10.09am.

The warning area covers the River Brain, including Podds Brook, through Braintree, Black Notley, White Notley and Witham.

The alert says that The Waterings and St John's Avenue in Braintree, and Bridge Street and Guithavon Valley in Witham, could be affected.

A warning alert was also raised for properties in the village of Sturmer and Haverhill at 10.15am

The alert said: "This message has been issued because flooding of homes and businesses is likely today.

"Rain is expected throughout Friday which may be persistent and locally heavy."

Flood warning area: The Stour Brook from Meldham Bridge in Haverhill to Linnetts Lane in Sturmer.

Further isolated outbreaks of rain and showers are forecasted for the weekend ahead.

The alert advises to "be ready to take action to protect your property" if flooding is expected.

The Environment Agency also issued a 'flooding is possible' alert for the River Colne from Great Yeldham to Colchester,  The Rivers Pant, The River Stour, and the upper Stour.
