AN off-licence in Tiptree could open up a new takeaway area at the front of its shop.

A planning application has been submitted to Colchester Council to change the use of part of The Offie in Maldon Road from residential to introduce a hot food takeaway.

The shop is currently used as part residential and part convenience store, with a three-bedroom home attached to it.

The plans look to change the three-bedroom home to a two-bedroom home and change the downstairs of the home to be completely used by the shop.

The floor plan looks to change the existing living room and dining room at the front, right-hand side of the building to be used as a shop floor and kitchen.

The residential area on the first floor of the building is set to remain, with the third bedroom being utilised as a kitchen and living room.

Residents have made objections to the plans, with one saying the shop could be noisy for neighbours when they’re in their garden.

They added: “They do not have space for six cars to park at the side of the shop, and cars will not park there as they will block each other in.

“Cars will be all over the road and pavement as they are now, causing a dangerous situation to the house next door.

“I will admit their food smells delicious, but there needs to be a caveat of some sort.

“The outside looks such a mess and needs some thought on waste.”

Another resident added: “Our concern is the amount of traffic and inconsiderate parking on pavements to access the existing shop and due to this there have been many near misses - just a matter of time before this leads to an accident.

“More amenities will only increase the parking and near misses with cars constantly u-turning in the road.

“My concern is that the high amount of vehicles visiting at school home time with cars pulling in and reversing at speed whilst school children and pedestrians that are trying to make their way past the shop.”

The Tiptree Offie has been contacted for comment.
