One person was initially arrested by the armed unit before police dogs Kaiser and Khan found three other people in a row of bushes nearby.

Since then three 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old have been arrested on suspicion of theft and remain in custody.

Superintendent Phil Stinger, of the operational policing command, said: "The public may naturally associate our armed officers with offences which involve dangerous weapons and firearms, which of course is what they are specially trained for.

“But they are also, first and foremost, police officers. They make arrests and they keep the county safe.

"In this case, their expert driving skills shone through and they were able to track the car of interest."
