A MAN who was arrested after a nasty crash left a pedestrian with serious injuries in Colchester has been released under investigation. 

Essex Police officers are continuing to investigate a serious smash involving a car and a pedestrian in London Road, Stanway, at about midday on Monday.

After arriving at the scene, police closed the road in both directions at its junction with Lucy Lane South while paramedics treating a man with serious injuries. 

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “He was taken to hospital for immediate treatment, and, at this time, his injuries remain serious but he is in a stable condition. 

“A man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was interviewed and subsequently released under investigation."

In addition to the man, who was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, a second person with less serious injuries was taken to Colchester Hospital.

Essex Police officers are now continuing to appeal for a man who may have witnessed the incident and then helped immediately afterwards to contact them.
