STAFF are devastated to announce they will be ending their tenure at a historic pub while Greene King bosses look for a new landlord.

The Goat and Boot in Colchester will be shutting temporarily after one last karaoke night tonight.

The Grade II listed pub at 70 East Hill is family-run. Staff spoke of their sadness as they shared the news online.

On social media, a spokesman for the pub said: “Well tonight it’s a bit of a sad one as it’s our last karaoke at the Goat and Boot, so come on down and join us for the last one and make it a good one.”

James Pearson, business development manager at Greene King said: "I’m looking for someone to make the Goat and Boot great again. It’s a fantastic pub with a loyal customer base.

"There is a huge opportunity to establish a great food offering as well. This is a pub with lots of character and needs someone to bring the best of its character out."

The pub has also made customers aware that its visa machine is no longer working so has reminded visitors to bring cash tonight.

A spokesman said: “As you’re all aware we are leaving very shortly, unfortunately as we have stayed on a little longer than expected we've just realised that as of today our visa machine is no longer working, so unfortunately for the next few days we will only be able to except cash, sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”
