The stormy weather of over a week ago lead to raised water levels in many areas of Suffolk. Raised levels of water at the River Lark in Mildenhall have lead the banks to burst and spill over into the surrounding field. The water levels in the area, known as the Jubilee fields, have since retreated, but a large area remains covered, and around this the grass is very muddy.

Furthermore, due to freezing temperatures over the week, the water has frozen over, and is very slippery. There is water beneath this ice, so be careful before walking on it, and also take care not to slip in the surrounding mud.

The bridge and the steps leading up to it remain unaffected by this, and the benches by the riverside are similarly undisrupted, allowing walking routes to continue as usual.

Wildlife in the river appears to be as usual- several water birds can be seen, including mallard ducks, geese, swans -in addition to some cygnets- and the occasional moorhen. However, it is more difficult to determine the quality of the life underwater.

The defences along the riverside have unfortunately given way, and now the edge of the concrete path is exposed to the river, though the section of the path exposed is near a very shallow section of the river. Whilst it is strong concrete and unlikely to collapse, this could over time be worn away.

It is likely that water levels will continue to decrease, unless there is a similar case in the near future that causes the river to spill over again.
