A TEEN from Colchester could be in the chance of winning his own London Fashion Week show as part of a new CBBC series.

Miguel Benerayan, 14, from Colchester is a contestant in the show hosted by Emma Willis, called Style It Out.

The St Benedict's College student will be up against eight youngsters from around the country.

The show sees a group of young designers compete to win a show at London Fashion Week.

Known on the show as Miggy, Miguel has always had an interest in fashion and performing arts.

He has performed in various pantomimes and shows at the Mercury Theatre including School of Rock and Sleeping Beauty and in Kinky Boots in Felixstowe.

His family is proud of him being chosen to take part in the competition, out of about 1,000 entrants.

His mum, Donna Benerayan said: “Miguel is really into drawing and art in general and really flourished in lockdown.

“When he got through to auditions and they chose him to be on the show, we filmed in Coventry for two weeks.

“His first round came out last Friday where he won the golden hanger.

“It was a real eye opener and he’s really gunning for the limelight.

“This is his first time behind the camera, so he wants to try more behind the camera, like acting.

“Between the show and the Mercury Theatre he’s had a lot of attention and he’s loving it.

“The show is not only about sustainability it is about the creativeness of kids and pushing them to pursue their creativity and wear what they want to wear.

“They are showcasing there’s no boundaries in fashion, Miguel likes to go to charity shops so he’s already into that sustainability mind to not waste.”

Over the course of the competition, the youngsters will create outfits using pre-loved and rescued clothes and materials.

Their looks will be judged by resident judges Ayishat Akanbi and Jorge Antonio as well as guest judges social media star Kyle Thomas, pop star Talia Mar and Strictly star Katya Jones.
