Harwich's 'We are the Music' receives signed guitar by Ed Sheeran

‘We are Music’ (WAM), a registered charity that works with young people in disadvantaged areas offering free music lessons and support, will be using the funds to give music lessons for primary school children in Harwich. 

Toby Scott, project manager at WAM, said: "We are thrilled to have Ed's support to enable us to supply hands-on music sessions for young people.

"He has generously signed a guitar to help raise funds for music lessons for primary school children in Harwich.

Toby revealed that the idea for an “A list” artist to help with fundraising came from the charity’s youth council called 'Youth Voice", which has eight members from the ages of 9 to 18.

Toby further revealed how WAM used their music contacts at Decoy Studios to get the guitar signed, after finding out how difficult it was last year to fundraise.

He said: "In our area it is very hard to raise money with buckets as most people just don't have the spare money to give away."

Toby also explained how people anywhere can bid online in the auction which is being conducted by Omega Auctions with an estimate of between two to three thousand pounds has been put on the guitar’s auction value.

For WAM, if £3,000 is raised then 50 children would be able to access a six-session music course.

While for the lucky bidder, they would receive an unique collectors item, and a Lowden guitar from Ed Sheeran's own line. 

The chairty offers band sessions where up to 6 young people are taught drums, bass, guitar and vocals to help them play songs.

WAM also runs free sessions between 5-9pm on Mondays at the Harwich Centre with three fully equipped studios with drums, amps and PAs being available to young people.
