AN inspirational worker at a historic Colchester venue has been recognised with an international award designated to champion women.

Katy Cirne, who is part of the technical team at Colchester Arts Centre, in Church Street, has won Women In Live Music's Production Manager award.

The European platform and online community is aimed at supporting women in the industry, including sound engineers, tour managers, backline staff and many more.

Miss Cirne received the honour after being nominated by Colchester Arts Centre bosses.

She said: “It’s a privilege to be recognised by Women In Live Music, I’ve been following them for such a long time.

“The venue nominated me for the award, and it was really nice to win it. But what was even nicer was to see so many of the shows that I was involved in getting in touch and congratulating me.

“You work so many shows that it gets hard to remember all of them.”

Miss Cirne found out about the platform a couple of years ago and has followed the awards ever since.

“I have only worked with a few women, so I hope that these awards help to encourage more women to come into the industry," she added.

“Even if it is just through shadowing, I hope it’ll help women to come through the door.”
